BLUE - Tom Holland's book Dominion explores how contemporary western society has been transformed and benefits massively from a Christian worldview. How can we have Christian fruit (justice, order of law, charity, equality, etc) without Christ as the root?

PURPLE - The book ReSourcing Theological Anthropology by Marc Cortez does a splendid job demonstrating not only how Jesus is the true image of the invisible God (Col 1:15) but also teasing out what difference this makes to various areas of life. I challenging read in place but certainly rewarding.
GREEN - The Bible Project is an excellent resource for lots of short videos on all sorts of Bible stuff. Enjoy!

RED - an absolutely banging tune from Dumbrocks. See how many reasons you can spot for trusting God.

Here's the grid we looked at on Sunday. God FORMS creation - to FILL creation - for FRUITFULNESS and FLOURISHING. Hooray!!
BLUE - The Biologos website has some really good stuff to read and listen to about how SCIENCE and CREATION complement each other (rather than conflict). One need not be persuaded of absolutely everything on the website, but it is measured, sensible, and though provoking. https://biologos.org/
PURPLE - here's an older blog post on why the separation of night and day do not justify gender fluidity - https://www.latimertrust.org/post/in-between-male-and-female
PINK - Why do different cultures think the way they do? Christopher Watkin's newly released tome is a excellent analysis of both the Bible and culture. He shows how the Bible's unfolding story makes sense of modern life and culture. This is thick, clotted-cream! But well worth the heavy slog.
RED - Everything a Child Should Know About God - super accessible children's book that teaches great truths about God. These are big truths for us to grow in to rather than little truths for kids to grow out of.

Week 1 – Genesis 1:1 - “In the Beginning...GOD”

  • RED – Watch: The God of Wow – a great kids’ song about our amazing God.
    • This song introduces some big truths about the doctrine of God.
  • PINK – Read: Carl Trueman, The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self: Cultural Amnesia, Expressive Individualism, and the Road to Sexual Revolution (Crossway: Wheaton, IL), 2020.
    • Trueman tracks how western society moved from “God is therefore I am” ==> “I think therefore I am” ==> “I feel therefore I am.”
      • An excellent analysis of why our cultural moment thinks and feels the way it does.

    Genesis 1-2 Resources

Welcome to the Genesis 1-2 resources page.
For each sermon week, Sam has recommended some next steps.

Follow this key to work out what’s best for you:
    • RED – skimmed milk – v accessible, intro stuff
    • GREEN – semi-skimmed milk – some thicker bits but pretty easy going
    • BLUE – whole milk – heavier going.
    • PURPLE – double cream – rich and rewarding
    • PINK – clotted cream – not for the fainthearted! But definitely worth it!
